New Shuttles
Hey everybody! Joe ordered new plastic shuttles for practice! Enjoy playing with our reserve of feather shuttles while you can. Z says that we should be okay if we use one tube per practice, so play carefully.
The new ones should be arriving in a few weeks.

Spent shuttles.
It's not uncommon to see shuttles getting replaced after every 2 or 3 points at professional badminton matches. Surely these birdies, while not 100% intact, are still in very fine condition. What do they do with these shuttles? Is there a black market for shuttles that have been ruthlessly pummelled by world-class badminton players?
I'm just curious, is all.

Club shuttles have been ordered
I know. This stinks. We ran out of nylon shuttles for club use a couple weeks ago.
Rest assured, a shipment of Yonex Mavis 350s are coming in next week. Please stay patient. We'll see you at practice.

How well does your shuttlecock perform?
Fear not, for Linh has tipped us off to another great resource. Originally posted at the Badminton Central forums, a user by the name of "DinkALot" has reviewed nearly 100 different shuttlecocks based on qualities such as flight accuracy, shuttle durability, and impact feel. Be sure to note the shuttles in bold; they are the top rated shuttles.
Direct link to the shuttle review.
Please note that at the time of this post, the review was last updated 03/23/08, and shuttle quality can vary with every batch.

Consider this.
A tube of Yonex AS-40 feather shuttlecocks costs $23.95.
With 12 shuttles per tube, each shuttle costs $1.996.
Now, for the purposes of this post, let us suppose that each shuttle lasts a single game.
In this game, the score will be 21-15.
That is a total of 36 rallies.
So, each rally costs $0.055.
Let us assume that each rally consists of an average of 8 hits.
Therefore, every time you swing your racquet, you are costing the club $0.00693.
Correct. 7/10ths of a penny. Just like that.
I hope you appreciate what the club provides for you.
And we appreciate you playing with us.
This post has been brought to you by maths.
Look Around You.
